A menopause health app

01 · Where it started

It started with people close to me.

I watched my mom and relatives in their middle age struggle with menopause.

10.5M
Thai women aged 40–59,
31% of all women in Thailand
78.7%
of Thai peri- and postmenopausal women
have at least one symptom
70%+
have emotional distress or muscle and joint pain,
the most common symptoms

02 · Understand

10 interviews. Three ways of facing it.

3 perimenopause · 5 postmenopause · 2 surgical — one hour each, plus 4 existing apps. Symptoms differ for every woman, so I looked at how they cope.

The endurer

"It's natural — just let it pass."

The pre-preparer

Already looked after her health before menopause, often with a doctor.

The self-explorer
Target user
  • Searches, asks and watches herself to find what works
  • Prefers lifestyle change before medicine
  • Keeps her own notes of what helps and what triggers symptoms
03 · Define

The hard part is the trial and error.

Unexpected symptoms→ Realize menopause→ Seek info / support⇄Adapt / treat→ Accept→ Renew
How might we create an empowering, personalized tool for women who want to adjust and explore their unpredictable changes — with a sense of independence and control?
04 · Ideate

A sandbox to try plans, not a rulebook.

S
Self-independence

Choices to adapt through behavior changes and experiments, not only medicine.

H
Helping hand

Baseline, personalized information as a guide — content checked with a doctor.

E
Empowerment

She can take control of unpredictable days, in her own style of self-care.

05 · Prototype & test

Tested the wireframe with 5 women and a doctor.

Wireframe: journal Wireframe: my solution Wireframe: profile insights
"Calendar plus journal is too much — I don't know where to look. Keep logging quick."
Journal now fits on one screen
"I want to see whether my plan is working, not charts of my style."
New Symptom record compares plans
"Getting a suggestion from the archive is confusing."
Suggestions moved into My plan
Doctor: symptoms overlap across stages; triggers matter more.
Dropped stage labels, added triggers
06 · Solution

Log it, try a plan, see if it works.

Swift journal

Symptom record

Archive

06 · Solution · scenario starring my mom

When a plan stops working, she tries the next.

Home with hot flashes logged
1
Hot flashes todayShe logs it from Home.
Phytoestrogen plan
2
Tofu for breakfastShe picks a phytoestrogen plan and a daily reminder.
Record comparing plans
3
A bad day → new planShe switches to a stair exercise; the record compares both.
07 · Result & next

What testers said, and what I'd change.

The record is really useful — my friend and I write on paper, and it's gone when we need it.
It helps me tell the doctor my symptom history when I can't cope anymore.
It follows how women in menopause turn information into their own wisdom.
